TomKat Innovation Grant, Westly Prize, and StartX: It's Been a Busy November!

Happy Thanksgiving from Summer Technologies! The past month has been incredibly busy here at our offices in Palo Alto but we are thrilled to share some exciting news with you.

  • We were awarded a TomKat Innovation Grant from the Stanford TomKat Center for Sustainable Energy, granted to Stanford entrepreneurs with unique and potentially disruptive sustainable energy technologies.
  • We were also awarded the Westly Prize! These $20,000 prizes are awarded to young innovators in California solving problems for the next generation. The Prize is awarded by the Westly Foundation founded by Steve Westly, former Chief Financial Officer of the State of California.
  • We were accepted into the Fall 2014 session of StartX! StartX is a Stanford-funded startup accelerator providing mentorship, support, and resources to the top 10% of young companies coming out of Stanford. We were thrilled to be accepted from over 350+ applicants and look forward to making this our home over the next three months. We moved into our new offices a couple weeks ago and have enjoyed the lively camaraderie working alongside 16 other companies trying to scale up our business.
  • Amidst all these exciting developments, Jennifer and Noemi traveled to Albuquerque, New Mexico to attend the annual Quivira Conference. The conference centered around regenerative agriculture and incorporating “old and new” techniques to restore soil, land, and ourselves back to good health. We learned about the delicate process of integrating the carbon, nitrogen, and water cycles from celebrated Australian researcher Christine Jones, discussed open-source agriculture solutions with Dorn Cox, and listened to a lively discussion on soil carbon featuring Peter Byck, author Judith Schwartz, and Quivira founder Courtney White. Amidst all these great talks we made some great new friends and contacts and look forward to coming back next year.

In the meantime, our development team is hard at work finalizing the official first version of PastureMap to be released in the next few weeks. Stay tuned for more details about the upcoming launch! We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on. We are thankful for your support and encouragement all throughout this year!

With gratitude,

The Summer Technologies team
